About the treatment

Buffalo hump is the common description for the cervicodorsal fat pad, an abnormal fatty hump on the back of the neck, extending between the shoulder blades.

There are a number of causes for the condition, including some medications and hormonal diseases with side effects from certain anti-HIV drugs.

What to expect from Buffalo Hump Surgery

The treatment of choice, which involves removing the fat pad, is ultrasonic liposuction. This procedure is normally performed under general anaesthetic as a day surgical procedure. 

At Shape Clinic, we believe that conventional liposuction is far less effective for this condition. The fat in the buffalo hump tends to be very firm and more fibrous than normal fat, so we use ultrasonic liposuction.
